The recital offered by the young Chinese-Canadian pianist Avan Yu for Juventudes Musicales in Seville produced in the audience an emotional impact of warm memory. It is very difficult to tackle the demanding programme offered by the young pianist: Beethoven Sonata Op. 110, Chopin 12 Etudes Op. 10, three pieces of Albéniz Suite Española Op. 47, Liszt Second Ballade in B minor and three movements of Stravinsky Petrushka. His recital was absolutely astonishing not for his flawless degree of technical perfection but for the intense and deep musicality exhibited throughout the programme. Astonishing easiness, exquisite sensibility, control of instrumental demands and, above all, his easy and close to miraculous naturalness. Everything in order: adequate sound, phrasing versatility, rigorous analysis of the different styles played. As a result of all this, an impressive silence in the hall that, at the end, resulted in a strong applause: it did not seem that those sounds came from the mind and the heart of a 21 year old person.
