....Next came Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor, one of the greatest of the 27 piano concertos he wrote. The soloist was Avan Yu, a 22-year old Canadian pianist.

His playing was vigorous, precise and entirely musical. It was in mild contrast to Zukerman's soft-

cornered interpretation, but the two didn't really clash.

Interestingly, Yu didn't play the Mozart cadenzas that we usually hear.

Those he played were far more difficult.

The program concluded with Schumann's Symphony no. 2 in C.

It was a strong reading even if the dramatic focus wandered a little in the first movement.
